Charlene “Charlie” Grider, 68, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:15 a.m. on December 25, 2024, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.
Born September 23, 1956, in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marcella (Hartwell) Patton. She married Joseph “Joe” Grider on September 13, 1987, at the Am Vets in North Vernon; he survives.
Charlie was a cook for the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, a bartender for the Am Vets in North Vernon, and a caregiver for North Vernon Nursing Home and Majestic Care in North Vernon. She was a member of Am Vets Post #7, Eagles Lodge, and a volunteer at the Food Pantry. Charlie started a social media page (Jennings County Free Items) designed to help people in need. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and doing arts and crafts.
Surviving with her husband, Joe, are her son, Johnny (Kara) Dillon of North Vernon; daughters, Dianna (Eric) Boardman of West Palm Beach, Florida and Judy (James) Collett of North Vernon; brothers, Charles Edward Patton of Oklahoma and Roger Williams of Deputy; sister, Linda (Winford) Shepherd of Bradenton, Florida and Cynthia (Jim) Scott of Kentucky; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her fur baby, Sadie.
She was preceded in death by parents; son, Daniel Wayne Grider; daughter, Angela Kay Bennett; and brothers, Willy, Terry, and Clinton Patton.
A funeral service for Charlie will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. George Knight officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be made in honor of Charlie through the funeral home for expenses.
