Charles Jackson “Jack” Mateer III, 70, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:36 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born April 25, 1955, in Sarasota, Florida, he was the son of Charles Jackson Mateer II and Madelyn (Mardis) Mateer. He married Helen Brothers on February 23, 1974, in Wilmor Heights, Pennsylvania; she survives.
Jack served in the United States Navy and the United States Army. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Jack enjoyed fishing, video games, shooting guns, assembling model cars, being outside and watching nature and animals.
He is survived by his wife Helen; his daughter, Patricia (Andrew) Rice of Rushville; brother, Ray Fry of California; and sisters, Sandy Richey of Pennsylvania, Sherri Kohrman of Fort Wayne and Emily “Joann” Wadsworth of Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Walter Fry, Marlene Carney, David “Woody” Fry and Rhoda Fry.
In keeping with his wish’s cremation is planned with no services to be held at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Memorials in honor of Jack may be made through the funeral home for funeral expenses.
