Charles Stephen "Steve" Shepherd

Charles Stephen “Steve” Shepherd, 75, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:42 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born July 22, 1944, in Seymour, he was the son of Robert Dale and Patricia Louise (Hill) Shepherd. He married Donna Smith on August 27, 1983, in Vernon; she survives.

Steve was a 1962 graduate of North Vernon High School and worked as manager for Miller Tavern in North Vernon for 30 years before retiring in 2007. He was a member of Am Vets and Moose Lodge in North Vernon and was a former member of Eagles Club in North Vernon.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending sprint car and horse track racing and was an I.U. Basketball Fan. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his dog, Riley.

Surviving with his wife, Donna Shepherd, are sons, Brad (Dawn) Shepherd of Dupont and Dale (Stephanie) Shepherd of North Vernon; daughters, Kelly (Roger Spencer) Shepherd of Brownstown and Jenni (Eric) Barnett of Brown County; brother, Scott Shepherd of Georgia; sisters, Jeanna Leach and Vickie (Greg) Cardinal of North Vernon; grandchildren, Braden Nading, Blakli (George) Hukill, Hunter Pittman, Makenzie Elmore and Brinley Elmore, all of North Vernon, Hunter Shepherd of Franklin, Ashley Pittman of Butlerville, Josh Barnett and Hailey Shepherd, both of Columbus, and Chase Shepherd of Aviano, Italy; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mark and Billy Dale Shepherd; and granddaughter, Jerrica Barnett.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
