Cheryl Marie Rakers, 61, of Scottsburg, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at her residence.
Born November 21, 1962, in Great Falls, Montana, she was the daughter of Dorothy Ann Sweany and the late Carl Hawkins.
Cheryl was a 1981 graduate of Bellevue West High School in Nebraska and held an associate degree in criminology. She served in the United States Navy for six years. Cheryl worked Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, Flower Factory in Centerville, Ohio and as a waitress in Reno, Nevada. Cheryl was a member of the ASPCA. She enjoyed crocheting, reading mystery stories and watching game and crime shows.
Survivors include her son, Mitchell Rakers of Breese, Illinois; her daughters, Sarah Branham of Port Angeles, Washington and Michelle Rakers of Breese, Illinois; mother, Dorothy Williams of North Vernon; sister, Beth (William “Bill”) Burnett of North Vernon; and grandchildren, Chloe Hatton of North Vernon and Andrew Hatton of Port Angeles, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Rick Adams officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will follow in the Rush Branch Cemetery in Butlerville with military graveside honors by members of Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W.
