Cory Duane Jenkins, 38, of Sonora, Kentucky, formerly of North Vernon, passed away on December 1, 2022.
Born November 20, 1984, in Columbus, he was the son of Tony Starkey and Carol (Sinkes) and Rusty Jenkins.
Cory was a 2003 graduate of Southwestern High School in Hanover and had previously attended Jennings County High School. He was a construction worker working for Scruggs Construction in Seymour and Harmon Construction in North Vernon. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union in Indianapolis. Cory enjoyed fishing, all sports especially basketball, watching late model racing and listening to music. He loved spending time with his children.
Survivors include his children, Brooklyn Jenkins, Ava Jenkins, Emorie Jenkins, Tyson Jenkins, Bryson Mefford, and Kyzer Jenkins, all of North Vernon; parents, Tony Starkey and Carol and Rusty Jenkins, all of North Vernon; significant other, Chelsey Grunden of North Vernon; step-son Parker Grunden of North Vernon; step-mother, Tasha Bowling; brother, Brock (Shalee Calderon) Starkey of North Vernon; sisters, Kacia Jenkins and Meagan (Travis) Sorenson of North Vernon; grandchild, Kinsley Abshear of North Vernon; Aunts and Uncles, Sherry (Paul) Eaton, Teresa Sinkes, Kerry (Steve) Wisner, Scot (Alice) Starkey, Lora (Roger) Vanosdol, all of North Vernon, Tim (Dawn) Sinkes of Arizona, Lynetta Jenkins of Clarksville and Angie Bruce of London, Kentucky; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gerald “Gene” and Doris “Jeanie” Sinkes, Sharon Leach, and Jim and Ann Jenkins; aunt, Janie Vanosdol; and uncle, Larry Sinkes.
A funeral service for Cory will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Kendall Wildey and Brother Ricky Persons officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. A burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials in honor of Cory be made through the funeral home to help with the many expenses the family has incurred.
