Darlene Rose (Mars) Burk

Darlene Rose Burk, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at University Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born November 26, 1946, in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Forrest and Rosemary (Whitaker) Mars. She married Ronald Burk; he preceded her in death on January 29, 1996.

Darlene graduated from North Vernon High School in 1964. She went on to work for Regal Rugs in North Vernon and retired from the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville after 30 years as a DST. After her retirement, she was self-employed as a cleaner. Darlene was a former member of Crossroads Community Church in Jennings County, and she enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, flowers, and reading her Bible.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Burk of North Vernon; sister, Phyllis Sedam of North Vernon; nephews, Mike (Janice) Sedam of Avon and Todd Mars and Kyle Mars, both of Louisville, Kentucky; nieces, Jill (Paul) Bell of Louisville, Kentucky, Susan (Dean) Jones and Lisa (Billy) Higgs, both of North Vernon, Leann (Brian) Terrell of Fort Meyers, Florida, and Lori (Shane) Lacy of New Albany; and sister in-law, Karen Mars of New Albany.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Richard and Robert Mars; and her nephew, Steve Sedam.

Visitation for Darlene will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. The graveside service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with Pastor Ty Meredith officiating.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the North Vernon Fire Department.
