David Michael Cherry

David Michael Cherry, 66, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

David was born on August 16, 1954, in Madison and was the son of the late Dallas C. Cherry and Eva Luella (Richards) Hawkins.

David was a 1974 graduate of Jennings County High School and worked as a custodian for Jennings Community Hospital starting at an early age. He enjoyed watching wrestling and the news, his childhood dog, spending time with his grandchildren, and telling bedtimes stories. David also enjoyed picking up cans and was known as the “Can Man.”

Survivors include his daughters, Hazel Cherry of North Vernon and Elizabeth Cherry of Seymour; brothers, Roger (Joyce) Cherry, Dallas (Kathy) Cherry, and Douglas Cherry, all of North Vernon; sisters, Sandra Henry of Madison, Karen “Gay” (Roy) Hutchinson of Hanover, and Deborah King and Pamela (Kenny) Monday, both of North Vernon; and grandchildren, Cheyenne Frear, Austin Frear, Kamden Jackson, and Bristol Jackson, all of Seymour, and Alivia Mullikin, Kinsley Cherry, and Aidan Johnston, all of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; companion, Brenda Diana Cherry; sister, Eva Mae Cherry; and three infant grandchildren.

A graveside service for David will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021, in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon were entrusted to the care of these arrangements.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of David to help with expenses.
