David Allen Keener

David Allen Keener, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:31 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at his residence.

Born November 21, 1946, in Lansing, Michigan, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Flossie (Hale) Keener. He married Nohora Yaneth Hurtado Aguilar on August 12, 1999, in Bogota, Columbia; she survives.

David founded Industrial Machine Repair in Hayden in 1971 and was there until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in North Vernon and attended St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus. David was a former member of the Hayden Baptist Church and Indianapolis Ski Club. He enjoyed snow skiing, taking 5-6 miles walks a day and traveling.

Surviving with his wife, are his son, Robert (Andrea) Keener of North Vernon; daughter Devon Everage of Charleston, South Carolina; brothers, Paul (Belinda) Keener and Steve (Kimberly) Nunley both of McMinnville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Derek (Brittany) Keener and Sarah (Benjamin) Cook, both of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Carson, Keener, Lauren Keener, Jason Cook, and Brooklyn Cook, all of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Nelson Keener and a sister, Mary Alice Owens.

A funeral service for David will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Mark Sorrells officiating. The visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Hayden Cemetery in Hayden.

Memorials may be made in honor of David through the funeral home to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
