David Scott Petry

David Scott Petry, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:46 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at his residence.

Born July 1, 1949, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Jack and Mary Helen (Fisher) Petry. He married Pam Day on June 4, 1985, in Bedford, Kentucky; she survives.

David attended Madison Heights High School in Anderson and attended Ball State University in Muncie. He was a Golden Glove Boxing Champion and Black Belt in Karate. He served in the United States Army from 1967 – 1969, in the 101st Airborne and the 12th Special Forces Green Berets.

David worked Guide Lamp for General Motors in Anderson for 28 years before retiring, he served as President for the Union (UAW 663 Local). He enjoyed hunting, arrowhead hunting, fishing, collecting Japanese swords; David was an artist and had art shows to show off his love of painting.

Surviving with his wife, Pam; are sons, Jacob (Katie) Petry of North Vernon, Josh (Deb) Petry of Abingdon, Virginia and Sam Petry of Mission Viejo, California; daughters, Heither (Wayne) Petry of Anderson and Rachel Petry of McCordsville; brother, Michael Stohler of Noblesville; sister, Jennifer (Charlie) Austin of Anderson; grandchildren,  Parrish (Kynzie) Castillo of Daleville, Trenton Patterson and Raeley Patterson, both of Anderson, Halston Lord of McCordsville, Xavier Petry, Amelia Petry, Joshua Petry, and Dylan Petry, all of California, Poppy Petry and Rowan Petry, both of North Vernon, Cora Petry, Isabelle Petry and Josie Petry, all of New Castle, Meghan Roark and Jorden Counts, both of Abingdon, Virginia, Chynna (Clay) Cantrell of Bristol, Tennessee; and great-grandchildren, London Blackburn of Abingdon, Virginia and Kenyen Castillo of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Ben Petry.

A funeral for David will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Caleb Reynolds officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Military honors will be provided by members of Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W.
