Debra Sue Day, 65, of North Vernon, passed away 7:28 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.
Born November 10, 1954, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Robert L. and Jane (Morgan) Day.
Debra was a 1974 graduate of Jennings County High School and attended I.U.P.U.I. in Indianapolis. She was a captain at Madison Juvenile Correction Facility in Madison, retiring in 2015 after six years; she had previously worked for the Madison Correction for Women in Madison for two years and as a supervisor for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 29 years. Debra was the president of AFSCME Union (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center for 10 years. She enjoyed reading, mowing grass, spending time with her family and taking care of others.
Survivors include her brothers, Robert D. (Brenda) Day of North Vernon, and Ronnie (Caroline) Day of Madison; sister, Tammy (Roger) Adams of North Vernon and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Robert Wesley Day.
A funeral service for Debra will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines, only 25 people will be allowed in the funeral home at a time.
