Delbert Earl Runyon

Delbert Earl Runyon, 88, of Westport, passed away at 5:44 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

Born December 7, 1936, in Ashland, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Ace Runyon Sr. and Hattie (Bellamy) Runyon. He married Marilyn Delhagen on November 21, 1956, in Warrington; she survives.

Delbert was a 1956 graduate of Kennard High School in Kennard. He retired in 1988 from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus after 25 years. He had previously worked for Brands Lumber in Columbus for 11 years and Bradshaw Building in North Vernon for 10 years. He was a 35 year plus member of the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening, and painting pictures.

Surviving with his wife of 68 years, Marilyn; is his son, Douglas Earl (Mary Miller) Runyon of North Vernon; his daughter, Susan (Kenny) Gatewood of Westport; sister, Barbara Young of Shirley; grandchildren, Aaron (Leah) Nugent and Amber (Kevin) Pack, both of Westport, Gus (Brianna) Runyon of Vernon, Corina (Derrick Lunsford) Runyon of Greensburg; and great-grandchildren, Cole Nugent, Corey Nugent and Noah Nugent, all of Westport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph, Richard and Ace Runyon Jr. and two infant brothers; sisters, Amelia Wiley, Louise Reffitt, Catherine Sarks, Bertha Huff and Augusta Marcum.

A funeral service for Delbert will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon with the Rev. David Huff and Rev. Luke Cooper officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Westport Cemetery in Westport.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Delbert to the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene.
