Dennis Marion Mathews

Dennis Marion Mathews, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:01 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at his residence.

Born October 6, 1952, in Brewersville, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Evelyn (Bowerly) Mathews. He married Geneva Love on June 1, 1984, in North Vernon; she survives.

Dennis served in the United States Air Force from 1971 until 1972. He was a self-employed locksmith and owned and operated Mathews Lock and Key. He was a member of the North Vernon Moose Lodge. Dennis enjoyed taking rides in the county and sightseeing, flying, being outside doing yardwork, gardening, and being with his family.

Surviving with is wife of 41 years, Geneva; are his sons, Quintin (Hazel Acton) Mathews of North Vernon and Ethan (Caitlin) Mathews of Scipio; his daughter, Megan (Austin) Clemans of North Vernon; and grandchildren, Kayne Johnson, Katrina Mathews, and Hayes Clemans, all of North Vernon, Henry and Oliver Mathews both of Scipio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harvey Mathews; and sister, Linda Redmond.

In keeping with his and his family’s wishes cremation is planned with a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Memorials may be made in honor of Dennis through the funeral home for help with funeral expenses or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
