Derick L. Montwheler

Derick L. Montwheler, 48, transitioned from this life January 22, 2023, one day before his older brother, Marc. To know and love Derick was quite a wild ride, one full of wonderful highs and incredible lows. He was the kind of guy that could have you belly laughing, crying, smiling, and screaming mad, all within a span of 5 minutes. He struggled with his demons in his own way, as we all do as humans. We win some, we learn some. And when Derick loved, he loved hard.  He would protect those he cared for with an unwavering fierceness, always loyal, always ready to have their back. Above all, Derick's greatest and most coveted love, is his daughter, Lydia. No one could put a smile on his face and joy in his heart like his little girl could. She is his biggest and best accomplishment, and we ask that you please hold her in your hearts as she learns to navigate a world without her dad in it.

There will not be a formal service for Derick. His family hope to hold a dual Celebration of Life for him and his brother Marc at a later date.  For now, remember Derick however you see fit. And when you remember him, know that, although the ride was wild, full of highs and lows, Derick was so loved. . .and he will never be forgotten. 

We would take the ride with you again, Derick, in a heartbeat. 

Memorials in honor of Derick may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 420 South State Street, North Vernon, Indiana 47265 for a trust fund that will be established for his daughter, Lydia.
