Donald Frederick Morris, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:28 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his residence.
Born January 5, 1936, in Monticello, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Ellis and Evalee (Brummett) Morris. He married Delora Nolan on July 19, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, they were married for 67 years before she preceded him in death on March 15, 2025.
Donald graduated from Monticello High School in Monticello, Kentucky in 1955 and attended Union College in Barboursville, Kentucky. He served in the National Guard from 1956-1959. Donald worked retail and wholesale sales for Genesco Retail Corporation in Nashville, Tennessee for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon and was a deacon at the Bethel Baptist Church in North Vernon. Don enjoyed farming and raising livestock.
He is survived by his sons, Don (Elizabeth) Morris of North Vernon; Rodney (Jennifer) Morris of North Vernon; daughters, Belinda (Robert) Kirchner of North Vernon, Tammy Fields of New Market, Tennessee; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Morris of North Vernon; grandchildren, Hannah (Henry) Keller of North Vernon, Hadassah Kirchner of North Vernon, Barak Kirchner of North Vernon, Sarah (Daniel) Jolly of Bardstown, Kentucky, Elijah (Alavia) Morris of Cutler, Isaac (Scarlett) Fields of Knoxville, Tennessee, Tabitha (Dakota) Massengill of New Market, Tennessee, Darby (Karissa) Morris of Deputy, and Cynthia (Tyler) Daugherty of North Vernon; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Rev. Benjamin F. Morris; daughter, Bernadine Morris; and great granddaughter Naomi Daugherty; brothers, Robert, Jimmy, and Curtis Morris.
The funeral service for Donald will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Vernon Baptist Church Family Life Center, in Vernon with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be at the Vernon Baptist Church Family Life Center on Tuesday, May6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
