Donald Eugene “Donny” Brown Jr., 67, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at his residence.
Born September 27, 1955, in Biloxi, Mississippi, he was the son of Donald Brown Sr. and Ethel Idalee (Duttlinger) Brown. He married Alice Kinnard on November 15, 1996, in North Vernon; she survives.
Donny was a graduate of Columbus North High School in Columbus and served in the US Army and National Guard for 33 years. He was a truck driver in the military and guard and was with the 1438 Transportation at Camp Atterbury. During his time in service, he served two tours -Desert Storm and Operation Iraq Freedom. Donny was a very proud veteran. He also worked as a material handler for AISIN USA in Seymour, contractor/maintenance for Rose Acres Farms in North Vernon, Dolly Madison, and Hilton Greenhouse, both in Columbus. He was a member of the Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. in North Vernon. Donny had many enjoyments including dirt track racing, working on cars, fishing, canning tomatoes, cooking, gardening, landscaping, woodworking, dancing, bird watching, and watching westerns, Notre Dame football, and NASCAR. He loved nature and being outdoors and sitting on his front porch. Donny had the most loving heart and was a true friend who had a funny sense of humor and was a jokester. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his brothers in arms.
Surviving with his wife, Alice, are his daughters, Christina Roark of New Carlisle, Barbara (Scot) Smith and Heather (Bobby) Heymig, both of North Vernon, and Billie Jo Foga of Indianapolis; brothers, James (Vickie) Brown and Jason (Mary) Brown, both of Columbus, Terry (Bobetta) Brown of North Vernon, Don (Cindy) Brown of Elizabethtown, and Terry Brown of Michigan; sister, Barb (Danny) Dillon of Elizabethtown; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; eighteen nieces and nephews; and thirty great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Travis Taylor; and nephew, Anthony Brown.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service with the Rev. Frank McGee officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Military rites will be provided by members of Matt Hester Post #2021.
Memorials may be made in honor of Donny through the funeral home to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or The Wounded Warrior Project.
