Donald Eugene “Donnie” Allman, 84, of Dupont, passed away at 4:48 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his residence.
Born January 29, 1941, in Seymour, the son of the late Cecil Allman and Dorothy (Stroup) Smith. He married Caroline Waltermire on March 26, 1966, in Scipio; she survives.
Donnie retired from Lee’s Ready Mix in North Vernon where he worked as a diesel mechanic; and had previously worked for Arvin’s and Drop Forge, both in North Vernon. He was a lifetime logger. He was a member of Dupont Masonic Lodge #419 in Dupont. Donnie enjoyed fishing, tractors, playing pool, working on race cars, listening to music, the louder the better and being outdoors.
Surviving with his wife of 59-years, Caroline, are his daughters, Donna (John) Gaines of Dupont, Diana (Brian) Lanham of Commiskey and Peggy (Craig) Roe of North Vernon; brother, Daniel Smith of Butlerville; sisters, Joy Bartlett of Butlerville and Maureen (David) Pope of Columbus; grandchildren, Kendra Auelman, Joshua Gaines, Justin Gaines, Jared Lanham, Jeremy Lanham and Desirae Self; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eber Eugene Allman; brother, Edward Smith; and sisters, Brenda Shaw and Opal Hardesty.
A closing prayer for Donnie will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham giving closing prayer. The visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the closing prayer.
Memorials may be made in honor of Donnie through the funeral home to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
