Donald Ray “Don” Lemon, 79, of Columbus, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at his residence.
Born November 12, 1944, in Washington, he was the son of the late James and Grace Maxine (Anderson) Owens. He married Melanie Wilson on October 7, 1994, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; she survives.
Don was a high school graduate and attended Purdue University for agriculture. He worked as a chemical farming consultant for Vigoro Industries in Bargersville for 30 years, and in later years he drove a tanker delivery truck for Circle K. Don was a member of the First Assembly in Columbus and the camping club. He enjoyed playing Euchre, camping, traveling, being outdoors, and houseboating. He was a big Purdue basketball fan, and he loved his dog, Phoebe.
Survivors include his wife, Melanie Lemon of Columbus; son, Christopher (Robin) Lemon of Martinsville; daughters, Angela (Jeffrey) Allsup of Avon; stepsons, Jeffrey Stanfield of Hodgenville, Kentucky, and Skyler Kirts of Taylorsville; stepdaughter, Cathy Stoughton of Hartsville; stepbrother, Kenny Owens of Vincennes; grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Tiffany, and Laura; eight step grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service for Don will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Don through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
