Dorothy Jean Brooks, 91, of Butlerville, passed away on June 24, 2021, at Majestic Care in North Vernon.
Born August 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Doris (Brehen) Koelmel. She married Vernon “Bud” Brooks at Graham Baptist Church on September 9, 1948; he preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a homemaker and the owner of Brooks Grocery in San Jacinto. She was a member of Graham Baptist Church, Brush Creek Conservation Club, Coffee Creek Conservation Club, and a former board member of Graham Baptist Cemetery. Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo, cross stitching, reading books, old country music, and family gatherings.
She is survived by her son, Jack (Nancy) Brooks of North Vernon; daughters, Norma (Walter) Pressler of Indianapolis and Mary Jo Brooks of Scottsburg; daughter-in-law, Delberta Brooks of Butlerville; brother, Norman Koelmel Jr. of Texas; sister, Mary (Nolan) Bottorff of Seymour; grandchildren, Brian Pressler of Savoy, Illinois, Michelle (Scott) McKinney of Indianapolis, Dawn (Ron) Cohee, Jeremiah Brooks, Josh Brooks, and James (Jean Wisler) Brooks, all of Butlerville, Christopher (Karen) Brooks of North Vernon, and Pamela (Brad) Stuckwisch of Seymour; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, James Brooks and Don Brooks; and brother, Lloyd Koelmel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Marvin Wright officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, June 28, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Graham Baptist Cemetery.
