Dorothy Jean (Lucas) Stewart

Dorothy Jean Stewart, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on January 10, 2022, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

Born April 18, 1934, in Marian County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Cora Mae (Walls) Lucas. She married Robert Stewart; he preceded her in death.

Dorothy was a graduate of Vernon High School and was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include her son Don (Lorie) Stewart of North Vernon; sisters, Louise McNeal of North Vernon and Edith Minks of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Christian (Brianna) Stewart, Derek (Allie) Stewart and Bailey Leanne (Dan Leach) Stewart, all of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Gabriella Stewart and Colton Beau Stewart, both of North Vernon; and nephew, Hedggie (Brenda) Kyle of Louisville, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Karen Sue Robinson; brothers, Edward, Paul and William “Ray” Lucas; and sisters, Geneva Everage, Jenny Bolding and Beatrice Kyle.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Christian Stewart officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in honor of Dorothy through the funeral home to Schneck Hospice.
