Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Cain, 94, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:51 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, IN.
Born June 20, 1929, in Ellettsville, IN, she was the daughter of Millard and Rose (Davis) Rucker. She married Stanton “Toodle” Cain on June 28, 1947, in Vernon, IN. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2011.
Dottie was a 1947 Graduate of North Vernon High School. She was a member of the Queensville Community Church, National Rucker Family Society, and President of Mary Martha Circle. She was a housewife and homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, needlework, canning, fishing, camping, and family genealogy. She loved visiting covered bridges, reading Christian books, and she dedicated her life to serving the Lord.
Survivors include 3 sons – Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Cain of Westport, Richard Lee Cain and David Lee Rucker, both of North Vernon; 3 daughters – Juanita Jean (Frank) Jewell of Rowdy, KY, Janet Sue (Todd) Galliher of North Vernon and Diane Marie (Tom) Sarver of Scipio; Grandchildren – Jennifer Ross (Brian), Jeanie Cain (Rachel Menkedick), Shawnda Allen (Minor), Patrick Jewell (Janie), Dawnita Wooten (Tim), Gordie Lucas (Mickie), Rob Wilson (Angie), Isabelle Galliher, Ava Galliher, Caden Galliher, Tracy Davies (Dale), Steven Allen (Mindy), Missy Fletcher (Michael), Danielle Cain, Macy Rucker, DJ Rucker; Great Grandchildren – Patrick, Shandi, Chasity, Gunnar, Kaytlin, Lyla, Kinlyn, Cami, Cainan, Brett, Jenna, Kaylah, Calli, Layton, Chace, Cody, Wyatt, Noah, Kaitlyn, Kyler, Tucker, Mistina, Dalton, and Cooper; and 10 Great Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 3 brothers – John, Lewis, and Billy Rucker; 2 sisters – Cathie Holwager and Margaret Beesley; and grandson – Greg Lucas.
The Funeral for Dottie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Tom Sarver officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday. The burial will be at Springer Cemetery in Elizabethtown, IN.
Memorials may be made in honor of Dottie through the funeral home to the Queensville Community Church.
