Douglas Miller Obituary

Douglas E. Miller, 66, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at his residence.

Born August 22, 1956, in Seymour, he was the son of John Kelly and Lucille (Marksberry) Miller. He married Barbara Jean Owens on March 23, 1975, in Hayden; she preceded him in death on May 25, 2021.

Doug worked the blast furnace for Atmosphere Annealing in North Vernon for five years and had previously worked 20 years for the former North Vernon Forge as a hammer operator. He enjoyed fishing, being on the water, Mopar cars, National Drag Racing, Bob Segar music, cooking, drawing, woodcarving, working on model cars, and collecting pocketknives. Doug loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughter, Shelley (Terry) Easter of North Vernon; stepson, Todd (Dana) Owens of Butlerville; Shelbie Stice of Terre Haute, Anthony Stice of Taylorsville, Patrick (Ashley) Easter of Scipio, Mason Griffith and Shandi (Logan) Allen, both of Columbus, and Mikala Owens of North Vernon; several great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Jimmie Ritchie Sr. and Ralph (Connie) Owens, both of North Vernon, and Terry Owens of Seymour; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, John “Jr.”, George W., and David Earl Miller; sisters, Carolyn Ritchie, Darlene Miller, and Irene Kuntz; brother-in-law, Jimmy Kuntz; grandparents, Allen and Cora Marksberry and George and Rachel Miller; niece, Tena Turner; nephew, Roy Kuntz; great-niece, Rachel Mitchell-McVey; and great-nephews, Joseph Turner, Tyler McVey, Douglas Mitchell III, and Kegan Gilland.

A funeral service for Doug will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Dave Stocks officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be conducted on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery.
