Dwight Jewell Padgett, 89, of Dupont, passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his residence.
Born November 29, 1933, in Boone County, Indiana, he was the son of J.I. Padgett and Oka (Martin) Padgett. He married Enola Williams on August 29, 1975, in Brewersville; she survives
Dwight was a 1951 graduate of Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a union brick mason for 50 years before retiring in 2010. He was a former member of Am Vets and PAL Boxing Club. Dwight enjoyed boxing. He taught, trained, and boxed with PAL, he taught two silver glove and one gold glove boxing champions, and was also the Navy Midwest Champion.
Surviving with his wife, Enola, are his sons, Dwight Padgett and John (Deb) Padgett, both of Middletown, James (Lisa) Padgett of Edinburgh, and Chad (Dawn) Smith of Seymour; daughters, Della Busby of Anderson, Brenda Roberts of Middletown, Erin Padgett of Commiskey, Kimberly Wolfe and Dalena (James) Robertson, both of North Vernon; brother, Bill (Martha) Padgett of Westport; sister, June (Cleo) Lovegrove of Muncie; twenty-two grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Padgett; daughter, Paula Wolfe; brothers, Donald and Duane Padgett; sisters, Naomi Burkman and Reba Huffman; and grandson, John Thomas Padgett.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Dupont Fire House in Dupont.
