Edith Lamaster Obituary

Edith Lavene Lamaster, a woman whose heart was as open as her garden gates, went home to her Lord on January 6, 2026, at the age of 94. While her legal name was Edith, those who knew and loved her called her Lavene—a name that, for many, was synonymous with kindness, faith, and a very warm hug.

Lavene spent nearly a century proving that her greatest talent was simply "to love people." Whether she was visiting neighbors as a longtime Avon representative or helping families find their way home as a successful local realtor, Lavene didn’t just have customers; she made lifelong friends.

She lived life with a song in her heart. Lavene had a deep passion for live music, and nothing made her smile quite like the sound of a band playing or a choir lifting their voices. She found God’s handiwork in everything—from the birds she watched from her window to the vibrant flowers she tended in her garden. She was rarely still, often found crocheting, painting, or woodworking. Her kitchen was the heart of the home, where she famously canned her own tomato juice to create legendary batches of chili and flipped her famous homemade pancakes for her hungry grandkids.

A faithful Christian throughout her life, Lavene was a dedicated member of First Marion Baptist Church in Commiskey. She lived her life as a testament to her faith, embodying a self-sacrificing spirit that she considered her most important legacy. She was famous for her signature catchphrase, "God bless you," a blessing she bestowed on everyone she met.

Lavene is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Edward Lamaster; her parents, Leslie and Margaret Zollman; her brother, Marvin Zollman; and her three sons, Robert, William, and Charles Lamaster.

Her love and light live on through her surviving siblings, Leona Fox and Evelyn Owens; her children, James Lamaster and Linda Jones; and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the lights of her life.
