Edward L. Hines exited this life at 8:49 AM, January 23, 2025, at age 90 in the Columbus Regional Hospital. Edward, the eldest son of Willard “Bill” D. Hines and Zella Mae (Lewis) Hines, was born November 28, 1934. His pride was that of his children and their accomplishments.
He spent his entire career as a Boilermaker building steel storage tanks around the country for Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB&I). He retired as a job-site supervisor. He worked in multiple states including Hawaii (which he loved) and Montana in 20 below temperatures (not so much). He retired in 1999. Edward and his crews were noted for building a high-quality product.
Edward’s passion was cars, especially fast ones, whether his own or racing. He owned several hot rods over the years (even if they didn’t start out as hot rods). Chevelles, Corvettes and the like. If it was stock when he bought it, he would most likely rebuild the engine for speed. In his younger days he was a drag racer and a demolition derby driver. He also loved watching races. He would spend every race day watching a NASCAR race, either in person or on TV. If he went to a race while on the road he would fly out after work on Friday, watch the race on Saturday, and fly back to work on Sunday. He and Georgia made several motorhome NASCAR trips as well.
He leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Georgia A. (McNamee) Hines and four children – Euneice “Neecy” A. (Hines) Rohrs and her husband Gary Rohrs of Columbia City, IN, Charles “Chuck” E. Hines and his wife Tammy R. (Scheider) Hines of Scipio, IN, Ronald “Ronnie” W. Hines and his wife Ann (Roberts) Hines of Weston, OH, and Debra “Deb” S. (Hines) Haith and her husband Glenn Hait of Ft. Collins, CO.
Edward had a total of 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, one of which is Hannah (Wumer) Fuller and her husband Nicholas Fuller who provided Edward with 6 great-great-grandchildren.
His cup runneth over!
Edward leaves four siblings – Richard D. Hines and his wife Donna of Frankfort, IN, Larry E. Hines and his wife Carline of Scipio, IN, Kathy E. (Hines) Maness and her husband Jim of Scipio, IN, and Randall W. Hines, Scipio, IN.
Those who exited before Edward were his parents, Willard and Zella Hines, and his brother James W. Hines.
A funeral service for Edward will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon, IN with the Rev. Tim McNamee officiating.
