Elmer Howard, 92, of North Vernon, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born February 19, 1929, in Hazard, Kentucky, he was the son of the late, Samuel and Lidia (Couch) Howard. He married Neva Mann in June 26, 1955, in Deputy; she preceded him in death on February 23, 2000.
Elmer served in the U. S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He was employed as a press operator with Arvin’s for 45 years, retiring in 1992. Elmer enjoyed playing horseshoes, bingo and going to casino, woodworking, fishing, squirrel hunting, watching animals. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons, Joe (Tammy) Howard and Christopher Howard, both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Kyle (Amanda) Howard and Caleb (Arlena) Howard, both of North Vernon, Krista Kay (Nate) Haggerty of Edinburgh and Bryant (Hannah) Howard of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Hadley, Natalie Hadley and Jacob Howard, all of North Vernon; Kaylee Haggerty, Piper Haggerty and Paisley Haggerty, all of Edinburgh.
He was preceded in death by his, parents, his wife, siblings, Nelson, Earl, and Jim Howard and Marybell Caldwell.
A funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in the Tea Creek Baptist Cemetery in Jennings County.
