On Sunday, April 12, 2026, Ethan James Prom was taken from us far too soon in a tragic house fire at the age of 25, leaving behind a family and community who will miss him dearly. He was born on May 7, 2000, in Burnsville, MN, and grew up in Westfield, IN, where he lived for over 15 years.
Ethan was a truly caring and empathetic young man, known for his quick wit, his strong work ethic, and his ability to light up any room he walked into. His love for family and friends was at the center of everything he did. He cherished the time he spent hanging out with his siblings, often sharing his love of nature through videos he delighted in passing along to them. He had a keen interest in current events and was known for the long, engaging conversations he shared with his grandmother, “TG” Jules. Among his most beloved companions were his dog, Sir Walter Scott, and his cat, Nezuko, who perished alongside him.
Ethan had a naturally creative spirit. He loved building and inventing things, was exceptionally good at drawing, and was passionate about music and was a self-taught guitarist. He had a deep love of nature, and his family fondly remembers his fanatic love and knowledge of dinosaurs. He enjoyed the freedom he found longboarding and had a refined taste for bourbon—a passion he and his mother, Molly, lovingly shared. He was also an avid gamer with a wide and devoted circle of friends in the gaming community. He was a guild master in Black Desert Online, his favorite game, and also enjoyed Crimson Desert and Pokémon Go. Beyond gaming, Ethan was an enthusiastic anime fan, with a particular love for Dragon Ball Z, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and KonoSuba.
Ethan is survived by his mother, Molly; his father, Eric; his sisters, Sophia, Simone, and Dhavia; his brother, Declan; his grandparents, Jules Prom and GarDel and Patty Prom; and his great-grandparents, Jill and Larry Christiansen, Ann Helm, and LaDel Prom and Bob Castelluccio, along with extended family and a wide circle of cherished friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Larry Helm and Sandy and Stephen Rodenbarger, and his great-grandparents, Dennis Dohm, Harold Helm, and Garfield Prom.
A service celebrating Ethan's life, followed by a potluck, will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Oakland Christian Church, 2005 County Rd South 1280 W, Russiaville, IN 46979.
