Eugene "Gene" Campbell

Eugene “Gene” Campbell, 86, of North Vernon passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

Born July 7, 1936, in Dorbfork, Perry County, Kentucky, he was the son of Arthur and Viola (Hamblin) Campbell. He married Mary Foster on July 30, 1977, in Beaver Dam, Kentucky; she preceded him in death on February 8, 2016.

Gene retired from Arvin’s in Columbus and had previously worked as a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company in Illinois, Kentucky, and Utah. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his sons, Mike (Jennifer) Campbell of Seymour, David (Sheila) Campbell of Florida, Joseph Campbell and Danny Campbell, both of Austin, and Jeff (Lori) Stidham of North Vernon, several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sons, Gary Campbell, Dennis Campbell, Clayton Stidham and Stanley Stidham; one brother; and three sisters.

A funeral service for Gene will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Caleb Reynolds officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
