Freda Jane (Roe) Meece

Freda Jane Meece, 79, of Commiskey, passed away at 2:41 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Born December 24, 1946, in Dupont, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mary (Goodpaster) Roe. She married Vernon “Junior” Meece Jr. on July 4, 1963, in Vernon; he preceded her in death on December 3, 1997.

Freda worked as supervisor for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville before her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, mowing grass, and going to the gambling boats.

Survivors include her son, Jeffery D. (Mary) Meece of Commiskey; her daughter, Karla Meece of Commiskey; grandchildren, Owen Grider and Alicia (Matt) Barbour, both of North Vernon, and Jeffery A. (Morgan) Meece of Whiteland; and great-grandchild, Lydia Barbour of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Dewey and Louis Roe; and sister, Nettie Davis.

A funeral service for Freda will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with her son, Jeffery Meece officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Freda to St. Mary’s School or Schneck Hospice.
