Freddie Yates Obituary

Freddie Willard Yates, 82, of North Vernon passed away at 2:47 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at I.U. Health Methodist in Indianapolis.

Born February 13, 1938, in Jennings County, he was the son of the late Orville and Carrie (Clarkson) Yates. He married Carolyn Sue Taylor on November 22, 1962, in North Vernon; she preceded him in death on October 30, 2017.

Freddie was a 1957 graduate of Vernon High School and worked as a custodian for Sand Creek Elementary and a Foster Grandparent for 10 years, Regal Rugs for 10 years, Kocolene & Clark gas station as manager and I.T.T. Industries.  He was a member of Harms Street Church of Christ in North Vernon, Foster Grandparent Program and was on a bowling league at Eder’s Pro Bowl. Freddie enjoyed bowling, cats and working word-search puzzles.

He is survived by his daughters, Carla (John) Alcorn of North Vernon and Tamara (Richard) Harris of Columbus; grandchildren, Heather (Ryan Eder) Abrell and Kayla Booker, both of North Vernon, Jonathon Alcorn of Shelbyville, Abby (Billy Graham) Alcorn of Scottsburg, and Joshua Harris of Columbus and; four great-grandchildren, Hayden Alcorn of Seymour, Leah and Lucas Eder and Maddilyn Alcorn all of North Vernon; one nephew, and 3 nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Carrie Yates; wife, Carolyn Sue Yates; brothers, Edwin Clarkson, Robert, Orville and Francis Yates and one nephew.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Brother Lawrence Mikesell and Brother Thomas Horton officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Mercy Rescue and Adoption Inc.
