Geraldine V. “Ged” Yates, 98, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Born June 17, 1923, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (Tebby) May. She married Earl Yates on January 15, 1944, in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on July 5, 1990.
Geraldine was a 1941 graduate of North Vernon High School, worked as a telephone operator from 1941 to 1949, and she retired in 1982 from Hook’s Drug Store. She was an AVON Consultant for six years, drove a school bus for eight years and was an administrator for American Medal for three years. Geraldine was a member of the North Vernon Wesleyan Church and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, reading, working puzzles and camping.
Survivors include her sons, Earl Raymond (Becky) Yates of Indianapolis and Larry (Andrea Slone) Yates of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughters, Mary Beth Yates of North Vernon, and Linda (Jay) Parks of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; grandchildren, Brian (Charity) Parks and Carrie (Adam) Biales, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David (Sandra) Parks of Lexington, Massachusetts; and great-grandchildren, Zanna, Finn, Dominic, Madeleine, Brendan, and Brady.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clyde and Roy May; and sisters, Kathryn Lawson and Margaret Mueller.
A funeral service for Geraldine will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Pastor Glenn D. Black officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
