Harlen Everett Pate, 75, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2020, at Danville Regional Rehabilitation Center in Danville.
Born August 11, 1944, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Pauline (Ingram) Pate. He married Carolyn Grogg on November 20, 1977, in Indianapolis; she survives.
Harlen worked as a supervisor for the Wastewater Treatment in Indianapolis from 1968 until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church in North Vernon. Harlen enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing bingo, and race cars, having raced at Twin Cities Speedway, Brownstown Speedway, the fairgrounds and Indianapolis Speedrome.
Surviving with his wife, Carolyn, is his son, Dewayne Pate of North Vernon; his daughters, Tammy Wilkerson, Sherryl (Scott) Ramey, and Christina Pate, all of North Vernon; stepchildren, Robert Summers of North Vernon and Sandy (William) Criscillies of Poland; sister, Alice Conner of Indianapolis; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdaughter, Teresa Hinton; grandsons, Dillon Ramey and Joshua Bournak; stepfather, Carl Pate; and nephews, Roger and Carl Flake.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 8th from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Harlen for expenses.
