Harold Jackson “Jack” Meade, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:58 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at his residence.
Born August 30, 1952, in Seymour, he was the son of the late Herbert and Ruth (Cantrell) Meade. He married Barbara Bowman on November 10, 1973, at the Church of Christ in North Vernon; she survives.
Jack was a 1971 graduate of Jennings County High School and worked for Cummins Engine Company for 31 ½ years before retiring in 2001; while at Cummins he worked on fuel pump test and heat treat. He was a member of the North Vernon Church of Christ and Diesel Workers Union. Jack enjoyed gardening, cutting firewood, farming and bailing hay, John Deere Tractors and Chevrolet’s, and going to tractor pulls. He was a devoted husband, dad and papaw, who also enjoyed Big Mac’s, Ice Cream, listening to Johnny Cash and watching Andy Griffith.
Surviving with his wife of 51 years, Barbara, are his sons, Tony (Jamie) Meade of North Vernon and Tim (Lori Moran) Meade of Rushville; his daughter, Amanda (Nic) Wilson of Seymour; sisters, Juanelle Shadday, Cheryl (Dean) Axsom and Karen (Floyd) Terry, all of North Vernon; grandchildren, Ashley (Carter Leak) Meade, Emma Clapp, Wyatt Meade, Luke Clapp and Aubree Clapp, all of North Vernon, and Reagan Meade of Edinburgh; step-grandchildren, Tyler Wilkins and Cody King, both of North Vernon, and Vincent Wilson and Victor Wilson, both of Seymour; and step-great-grandchildren, Kinsley Wilkins and Mitchell Wilkins, both of Dupont and Jolene King of Medora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Lowell Meade.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Tom Horton officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. The burial will follow in Hayden Cemetery in Hayden.
Memorials may be made in honor of Jack through the funeral home to North Vernon Church of Christ.
