Helen Grace (Hatfield) Houston

Helen Grace Houston, 83, of Franklin, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Otterbein Senior Life in Franklin.

She was born on May 28, 1940, in Arthur, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Kyle B. and Grace (Bolton) Hatfield. She married John Houston on August 28, 1977, in Shelbyville; he survives.

Helen was a 1958 graduate of Greenfield High School in Greenfield and worked for Alta Chinking Company as a career typesetter and typer. She was a member of Vernon Baptist Church. Helen enjoyed making picture DVDs for family and gardening.

Survivors include her sons, Nicholas J. (Donna) Abney of Burkesville, Kentucky, and Kelly “Bruce” Abney of Franklin; sisters, Francis E. Carpenter of Morristown, Tennessee, Martha Kidwell of Bargersville, and Sally (Jack) Monroe of North Vernon; and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Rick R. Abney; daughter, Shelley B. Carnahan; brothers, Kyle and William Hatfield.

A funeral service for Helen will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in the IOOF Cemetery in Waverly.
