Helen Elizabeth (Stroup) Poling

Helen Elizabeth Poling, 90, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Majestic Care in North Vernon.

Born August 13, 1931, in Greensburg, she was the daughter of the late Eber Stroup Sr.  and Cora (Meehan) Stroup. She married Lyle Scott Poling on June 28, 1964, at Tea Creek Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1990.

Helen graduated from Vernon High School in 1950. She worked as an inspector for Arvin Industries in Columbus for fifteen years in addition to being a homemaker and babysitter. She was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church where she was also a custodian and a teacher of MOPS (Mothers of Preschool Children). She was a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School director, and a member of American Baptist Women. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, watching birds, cooking, gardening, flowers, and playing Euchre and Dominos.

She is survived by her son, Brian (Brandi) Poling of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter, Sherri (Larry) Maschino of North Vernon; sister, Mary Lewellen of Scipio; grandchildren, Katrina Poling, Brooke (Jacob) Maschino, Andrea (Josh) Leak, and Marisa (Josh) Lakins, all of North Vernon, Bryce Maschino of Orlando, Florida, Cody (Sarah) Bach of Omaha, Nebraska, Tryston Wheatley of Madison, and Landon Poling of Knoxville, Tennessee; and great grandchildren, Carter Leak, Taylor Leak, Dawson Leak, Gwyn Lakins, Reid Lakins, and Jonathan Paul Maschino, all of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Dorothy Smith, Grace Tomlinson, and Mae Sporleder; and brother, Eber Stroup Jr.

Visitation for Helen will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Tea Creek Baptist Church; burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery.
