Helen Louise (Gaughan) Roberts

Helen Louise Roberts, 93, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

Born January 28, 1928, in North Vernon, she was the daughter of the late James and Gladys (Robbins) Gaughan.

Helen was a 1946 graduate of North Vernon High School and was a caregiver for the elderly until her retirement. She had previously worked for ten years as a security officer for the Gulf Building in Houston, Texas. She is a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon. Helen enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, watching old westerns, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Donald Purkey of Columbus; daughter, Tania (Robert) Lucas of Seymour and Marcia Elaine (Dwight) Smith of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Lisa (Gary) Combs, Robert Lucas Jr., Dove (Cory) Placek, Rachel Purkey and Seth Purkey, all of Columbus, and Jimmy (Terri) Lucas of Seymour; four great-grandchildren; and special niece and nephew, Charlie and Ann Norton of Richmond, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Purkey; sister, Margie Elaine Stewart; and granddaughter, Sandy Elaine Lucas.

Private graveside services will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in North Vernon. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon were entrusted with the care of these arrangements.

Memorials may be made in honor of Helen through the funeral home to Mercy Rescue and Adoption Inc.
