Helen Sidwell Obituary

Helen Marie Sidwell, age 89, of North Vernon, passed peacefully from this life on January 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 13, 1934, in Monticello, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James Henderson and Rosa Mae (Decker) Humble. She married Clarence Wesley Sidwell on May 28, 1955, in Monticello, Kentucky; he preceded her in death on April 1, 2003.

She was a homemaker and housewife and had worked for Saps Bakery and CP Electric, both in Columbus. She was a member of Pleasant View Church in North Vernon.

She was a loving wife and mother and will be sorely missed by her family, friends and loved ones. Her many joys included her church family, reading the Bible, Bible study, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She loved to use a hammer and nails to build things and sew. She also delighted in visits with her brother and sisters, nieces, and nephews which always brought her great comfort and joy. Love and laughter were a staple in her home throughout her life and she was always open to a good joke or funny story.

The difficulties of her later years didn’t seem to diminish her sense of humor or her ability to see the good in times of trouble.  She looked forward to being reunited with her parents, husband and many brothers and sisters who passed on before her.

“The closest we can come to understanding God’s love, is to experience the love of a mother.”

She is survived by a brother, Jim Humble of Monticello, Kentucky; her four children, Marlene Sidwell of North Vernon, Debra Sidwell of Salem, Steve (Deborah) Sidwell of Brownstown, and Tim (Judy) Sidwell of North Vernon; grandsons, Kagan (Liz) Clark of Boseman, Montana, Wyatt (Mindy) Sidwell of North Vernon and Kaidyn Sidwell; of Brownstown; great-grandchildren, Rose Sidwell and Lukas Sidwell, both of North Vernon and Grayson James of Boseman, Montana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Zelmer, Bill, Cecil, Carl, Kenneth and Charles Humble and sisters, Mildred Bell, Thelma Jackson, and Linda Davis.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Tim Sidwell officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A burial will follow in the Bear Creek Baptist Cemetery in Jennings County.

Memorials may be made in honor through the funeral home to Pleasant View Church.
