Irma Ruth (Strickland) Gresham, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 7:38 p.m.
Born October 25, 1938, in North Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Cecil L. and Glenna G. (Wadsworth) Strickland. She married Maurice Richard Gresham, on April 18, 1954, at the Westport Baptist Church; he survives. The couple recently celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Irma graduated from North Vernon High School in 1956 and went on to work for Farm Bureau Coop and Regal Rugs, both in North Vernon, and as a secretary and bookkeeper for Pipe’s Supply in Adel, Georgia and Fresh Plants in Americus, Georgia before retiring in North Vernon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Vernon and a homemaker after her retirement. She enjoyed playing music, including banjo, guitar, stand-up bass, and fiddle, with her husband in addition to gardening, singing, teaching Sunday School, and leading the Youth Choir at the First Baptist Church.
Irma is survived by her husband; sons, Michael “Mike” D. (Jackie) Gresham of North Vernon, Dwight R. (Jodie) Gresham of Ellaville, Georgia, and Edward “Ed” L. (Shelley) of Americus, Georgia; daughters, Kathryn “Kathy” J. (Rick) Stewart of Henryville, Darlene D. (Chris) Burnett and Maurica “Rica” R. (Greg) Askew, both of North Vernon, and Malinda “Mindy” D. (Donnie) Green of Adel, Georgia; brother, James “Jim” Strickland; grandchildren, Melissa (John) Gosney, David (Crystal) Gresham, Bobby (Joenetta) Gresham, Eric (Angie) Zellner, Denny (Mandy) Gholson, Jon (Desiree) Gholson, Maria Stewart, April Stewart, C.J. (Hayley) Burnett, Ashton Burnett, Ashley (Justin) White, Lindsey (Zack) Williams, Logan Askew, Haleigh Askew, Kayden Gresham, Kyle Gresham, Naveah Shipman, Austin Shipman, C.J. Zipperer, Lauren Youngblood, and Matthew Deblase; 29 great grandchildren; and sixteen great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lewis C. Strickland and Floyd E. Strickland; sister, Nettie E. Noel; daughter in-law, Judith Kay Gholson Gresham; and granddaughter, Jessi Nicole Green.
A funeral service for Irma will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
