J.C. Claire Jr.

J.C. Claire Jr., 69, of Edinburgh, formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 8:39 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born September 8, 1952, in Seymour, he was the son of J.C. Claire and Evelyn Merle (King) Washburn. He married Brenda Kay Thackery on June 20, 1992, at the First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon; she survives.

J.C. attended Jennings County High School and worked in maintenance for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 34 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge since 1992 and a member of Forrest Assembly in Silver Springs, Florida. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, repairing lawnmowers and going to flea markets.

Surviving with his wife Brenda, are a son, John Claire of Columbus; daughters, Keristen Evans of Columbus, and Allison Claire of Taylorsville; brothers, Gerald (Susie) Claire and Elmo Claire, both of North Vernon; sisters, Pauline (Rick) Applegate and Kathy Claire, both of North Vernon and Doris (Bob) Cheatham of Greensburg; grandchildren, Kaydence Evans and Jayce Evans, both of Columbus and Andrew Ramsey of Taylorsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Allen Claire, grandmother, Fannie Claire, brother, Leo Claire and sister, Eveline Claire.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Della Hamilton officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in honor of J.C. to the Moose Lodge in North Vernon or Columbus.
