Jack A. Walker, 84, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his residence.
Born August 4, 1939, in Bethel Ridge, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Ella C. (Hines) Walker. He married Mary Lou (Jamison) Walker on September 26, 1959, in Osgood. They were married for 67 years, and she survives.
Jack owned and operated Walker Lawn Care in Wesley Chapel, Florida for 20 years before retiring in 2005 and had previously worked for Arvin’s in North Vernon for 15 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Vernon, Dupont Baptist Church in Dupont and Temple Heights Church in Tampa, Florida. Jack also volunteered with the Pregnancy Care Center in North Vernon. His enjoyments included fishing with his wife, building bird houses, going camping and RV’s, old cars and Dodge trucks. Jack loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing the guitar, singing Johnny Cash and Bluegrass music.
Surviving with his wife, Mary Lou; are his son, Clint A. (Debbie) Walker of Norwich, Connecticut; his daughters, Terri (Jim) Jessup of North Vernon, Jerilyn Price of Katy, Texas, and Cheryl (Mark) Harshbarger of Tampa, Florida; brother, Lewis Thomas (May) Walker of Indianapolis; sister, Pat (Ray) Hall of Columbus; grandchildren, Breann (Scott) DeRycke of Mahomet, Illinois, Jessica (Shawn) McCluskey, Samuel (Meghan) Walker, Benjamin (Taylor) Walker, William Walker, and Joseph Walker, all of Norwich, Connecticut, Noah (Julia) Price of Houston, Texas, Luke Price and Isabella Price, both of Katy, Texas, Peter Harshbarger of Tampa, Florida, Sarah (Steve) Campbell and Suzanne (Dan) Johnson, both of Columbus, Katie (John) Silvati of Petersburg, Kentucky, and Elizabeth Piazza of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Charles DeRycke of Mahomet, Illinois, Zelda McCluskey of Norwich, Connecticut, and Oliver Price of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Barclay and Joseph Walker; sisters, Pauline Stratton, Lorean Walker, and Phyllis R. Eden; and two grandsons, Jimmie and Jamison Walker Jessup.
A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in North Vernon with the Rev. Jeff Jones and Rev. Jerry Ison officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
The family request in lieu of flowers that memorials be made through the funeral home for expenses.
