James Earl “Jim” Barr, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:58 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Born November 22, 1946 in Indianapolis, he was the son of James Stephen and Ellen (Kern) Barr. He married Brenda Archibald on January 13, 1980 in Indianapolis; she survives.
Jim was a 1964 graduate of Manuel High School and served in the United States Marine Corp during Vietnam from 1965-1968. He worked as a lab tech for Valspar in Indianapolis for 40 years before retiring in 2004. Jim enjoyed fishing and being a handyman.
Surviving with his wife, Brenda, are daughters, Dawn Christina Al-Khateeb and Kelly Crystal Barr, both of North Carolina, and Eden (Jeremiah) Johnson of Columbus; stepson, Atom Storm Wigley of Tampa, Florida; brothers, Joel Barr and Melvin Barr, both of Indianapolis and Danny (Teresa) Barr of Beech Grove; and grandchildren, Hailey Harris, Tristan Harris, Elisa Harris, Nasiere Pierce, and Catalina Pierce all of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gary and Paul Barr.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be on Monday, June 22, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
