James Edward Catterton

James Edward Catterton, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Born February 2, 1938, in Hope, he was the son of the late Edward O’Neal Catterton and Anna (Weber) Catterton Vice. He married Phyllis Jean Beach on April 5, 1959, in Vallejo, California; she survives.

James was a 1955 graduate of Columbus High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a realtor for Home and More for 20 plus years and several years for Public Service in Columbus.  He was a member of AA (Catterton Group) in Vernon. James enjoyed playing cards and farming.

Surviving with his wife, Phyllis, are sons, Dennis (Anita) Catterton and Dewayne Catterton, both of North Vernon, and Donald (Robin) Catterton of Hanover; nephew, Ray O'Neal (Marica) Catterton; nieces, Sandra Benefield and Sharon (Derek) Cude; grandchildren, Samantha Catterton, Chris Catterton, Michael Catterton, Amber Reynolds, and Sean Followell; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and son in-law, Michael Followell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Deanna Followell; brother, William Ray Catterton; sister, Donna Mae Tucker; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Catterton; stepfather, Everett Vice; sister in-law, Lorene Kay Catterton; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters.

A funeral service for James will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Damon Marling officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
