James Earl Chaney, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Envive Healthcare of Indianapolis.
Born September 8, 1943, in Somerset, Kentucky, he was the son of Wesley and Sybil (Taylor) Chaney. He married Cheryl Sue Eadler on June 25, 1982, in Selina, Tennessee; she preceded him in death on February 3, 2009.
James worked for the United States Post Office where he transported the U.S. Mail for 22 years and had previously worked for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. He was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse and a former member of Eagles Post #4097 in North Vernon and North Vernon Moose Lodge. James loved horses and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons, Jeffery (Teresa) Dickerson of Leavenworth, Kansas and James (Christine) Chaney of Nashville, Tennessee; his daughters, Lisa (Charles) Duke of Edinburgh, and Jamie (Nathan) Rittman of Freetown; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, Ray Taylor and Charles Chaney.
A closing prayer will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until time of the closing prayer.
Memorials may be made in honor of James through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association.
