James Joseph Gallo Jr., 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:10 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021, at his residence.
Born March 20, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of James Joseph Gallo Sr. and Eleanor (Calamai) Gallo. He married Doris Ethel Warner on December 27, 1987, in Greensburg; she preceded him in death on June 6, 2018.
James was a warehouse manager and semi driver for Fed Ex and had also worked metal prep in Seymour. He was also a dishwasher for Linda’s Log Cabin in Vernon. James was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, weekly poker games, watching the western channel, listening to Michael Jackson, Eagles, Dobbie Brothers, Roney Milsap and Earl Swagger. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers, shooting, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching hummingbirds.
Survivors include his sons, Jason Goodwill of Waterford, Pennsylvania, Vince (Dawn) Gallo of Joliet, Illinois, Mike (Kasey) Gallo of Wagener, South Carolina, Joseph (Barbara) Gallo and Justin Dunn, both of North Vernon, Indiana Danny (Lisa) Dunn of Lexington, Indiana, and Michael (Bobbie) Dunn of Commiskey, Indiana; daughters Becky (Stuart) Plovan of Baltimore, Maryland and Melisa Dunn of North Vernon, Indiana; sister, Anna Marie Heenan; grandchildren Trish Jimenez, Courtney Goodwill, Holly Goodwill, Alex Davila, Natalie (Blake) Martin, Francesca Gallo, Gianna Gallo, Ashley Gallo, Allison Gallo, Mikey Gallo, Brittany Gallo, Samantha Gallo, Emma Gallo, Shannon (Michael) Biggs, Derrick (Kelsy) Reed, Kayla (Shawn) Miller, Addilynn Alexander, Steven Plovan, Emily Plovan, Colton Large, Joe Dunn and Taylor Dunn; great grandchildren Tinslie, Whaylen Bristol Amelia, Matthew, Remington, Chevy, Briahnna, Jazmyn and Lucas; and his beloved doggie daughter, Maggie May; and a nephew, Paul (Jill) Grajek of Oaklawn, Illinois. .
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, his son, James Gallo III, and brother in-law, James Heenan.
A funeral service for James will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, September 30, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
