James Wesley “Jim” Hanaway, 65, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020, at his residence.
Born December 18, 1954, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Herschel and Juinita (Green) Hanaway. He married Alma Wood on September 26, 1985, at the Scipio United Methodist Church in Scipio, she survives.
Jim was a windows and doors mechanic for Bob Wood Chevrolet in Indianapolis and worked for Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville and the Madison State Hospital in Madison before retiring in 2019. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing, and wildlife watching. Jim was a hardworking man and had a part-time stump grinding business.
Surviving with his wife, Alma are the children they raised, Randy (Brenda) Canada of Mt. Vernon, Billy “Bill” (Jennifer) Canada of Princeton, North Carolina, Jerry (Carrie) Canada of Lafayette, Tim (Gwen) Canada of Madison, Chris Wood of West Lafayette, Steaven (Carrie) Wood of North Vernon, Terri (Jim) Mails of Seymour, Jed Hanaway of California, and Colt Hanaway of Florence, Kentucky; brother, William Hanaway of California; sisters, Ruthann (Daniel) Harp and Martha Vogel both of Indianapolis; seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Hanaway.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation is planned, and a celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at their residence, 6085 N. County Road 360 W. North Vernon. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Jim to help with expenses.
