James "Jim" Taulbee Sr. Obituary

James (Jim) Joseph Taulbee Sr., of North Vernon, passed away on December 4, 2025, at 8:40 a.m. at his home. Jim was born December 31, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio. He was a man whose life has been a testament to kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. The beloved son of Luther “Poppy” and Eleanora “Nan” Taulbee, Jim’s legacy is one of warmth, humor, and a heart as big as the ocean he loved.

Jim’s fun-loving spirit was evident in every moment. He was quick with a joke, always ready to lighten the mood and never took life too seriously. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures- a quiet sunrise, the first glimpse of the ocean (which could move him to tears), and sharing good food with those he loved. Acts of service were his love language; whether cooking, baking, or grilling, he made sure everyone was cared for. His sweet tooth matched his sweet soul, and he made every holiday- especially Christmas- feel magical.

As a father to three children- two sons and a daughter- Jim’s loyalty and love were unwavering. He was the kind of dad who showed up, who listened, and who made sure his children always knew how much they were cherished. As a grandfather, he was simply the best Papaw. His grandchildren always felt his love through his acts of service, his playful spirit, and his gentle guidance. Every bite he cooked, every story he told, and every tradition he started was seasoned with love and good cheer.

Jim’s life was also filled with simple joys: listening to 700 WLW, cheering on his Bengals, doing crafts, and taking pride in caring for his home and yard. He loved deeply, gave selflessly, and saw beauty in the smallest things.

He is survived by his wife, Shelly Taulbee; his children James Taulbee Jr. (“Little Jimmy”) (Melissa), Brandy Zamora (Tiger), and Nicholas Taulbee; his grandchildren James Taulbee III (Cheyenne), Dustin Moore, Averi Zamora (Colson Leach), Allie Zamora, Finleigh Taulbee; and his great-grandchildren Braelyn and Brynleigh Taulbee, and River Moore. He is also survived by his brother Tim Bogan; sisters Brenda Bailey (Tim), Michelle Diane Nichols, and Melissa Curtis (Scott); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gregory James Taulbee and Barry Lynn Taulbee.

Jim retired from Lowe’s Distribution in North Vernon, where he served as a supervisor. He graduated from Madison High School in Middletown, Ohio, and the Dayton Ohio Police Academy.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that his love lives on in every story shared, every laugh remembered, and every tradition carried forward. To be loved by him was to be truly known and cherished. His laughter, kindness, and love will forever live in us.
