Jean Marie Thomas, 92, of Hanover, passed away at 10:37 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born June 21, 1927, in Montgomery Township in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Mildred (James) Graham. She married her first husband, Alfred Dean on December 21, 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1966. She married her second husband, C.R. “Dick” Thomas on February 17, 1967 in Scipio; he preceded her in death on September 2, 1988.
Mrs. Thomas worked as a secretary for Muscatatuck State Developmental Center before retiring in 2002 and had previously worked for Cummins Engine Company, Camp Atterbury and Fewell & Associates Engineering. She was the former President of the Scipio PTO, former clerk of sessions at Scipio and Graham Presbyterian Churches and a member of Graham Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Thomas enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, traveling, pets, gardening and flowers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Ross (America) Thomas of Columbus and Clay Thomas of Jennings County; daughters, Kathi (Harold) Eder of Hanover, Joyce (Tony) Daeger of North Vernon, Faith Thomas of Logan, Utah and Jayne (Chris) Harmon of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; grandchildren, George (Kaley) Daeger Jr. and David (Angela) Daeger, both of Nashville, Tennessee, Amanda (Marc) Chevalier of New Harmony, Joseph Thomas, Henry Thomas and Claudia Thomas, all of Columbus, Matthew Harmon of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Major Michael (Vanessa) Harmon of Alexandria, Virginia, Lt. Graham (Stephanie) Harmon of Imperial Beach, California; Caylen Thomas and Seth Thomas, both of Jennings County, Dawn (Anthony) Brandon and Michael (Melanie) Eder, both of Madison, Kate Eder, of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, Chris (Megan) Eder of Lexington, Kentucky, Emily Schroeder and Jacob Schroeder, both of Logan, Utah; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Alfred Dean and 2nd husband, C.R. Thomas; and one brother, Charles F. Graham.
A funeral service for Mrs. Thomas will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2020, at the Graham Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Jennings County. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the Graham Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Graham Presbyterian Cemetery.
