Jerry J Smith

Jerry J. Smith, 90, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at his residence.

Born October 11, 1932, in Bartholomew County, he was the son of the late Samuel and Lela (Shumaker) Smith.

Jerry was a 1951 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1955 graduate of Franklin College. He worked as a Pharmacist for Central Pharmacy in Seymour. He was a Past Master and member of Six Mile Masonic Lodge #412 in Hayden and Faith United Baptist Church in Scipio. Jerry enjoyed yard work, flowers, and animals. He loved his basset hound, Freddie.

Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Lucas of North Vernon; half-brother, William Schultz of Grass Valley, California; grandchild, Jeff (Rebecca) Lucas of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Chelsie Lucas and Megan Lucas (Joe Staples), both of North Vernon, and Corey Smitter of Indianapolis; great-great-grandchildren, Dyar Owens, Jaxon Owens, Jase Moore, Kasen Staples, and Cameron Staples, all of North Vernon; three nieces; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul Lucas; brothers, Richard Smith and Gene Smith; and sister, Joan Durham.

A funeral service for Jerry will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Paul Brown officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A burial will follow in the Rock Creek Cemetery in Westport.

Memorials may be made in honor of Jerry through the funeral home to Mercy Rescue and Adoption Inc.
