Jewell Dean Grider, 86, of North Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.
Born March 14, 1939, in Paint Lick, Garrard County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of George Wesley and Hallie Lee (Lamb) Bryant. Jewell Dean married Maurice Grider on July 31, 1981, in North Vernon, he preceded her in death on March 21, 2020.
Jewell Dean was a 1956 graduate of Vernon High School and worked several years at the former Danner’s 5&10, performed office work for OVO from 1968 to 1972, drove a van for the Senior Center for two years, worked at Plasfinco for two years, and worked many years at McDonalds beginning in 1999. She was a member of Grayford Road Church of God and a former member of both Eastern Star and Amvets in North Vernon. She enjoyed reading, traveling and taking tour trips, working puzzles, and spending time with family and especially her grandchildren.
Jewell Dean enjoyed helping others and spent thousands of hours volunteering for many organizations in Jennings County, including the United Way, Coordinating Council, Ohio Valley Opportunities, Nothing Impossible Club, North Vernon Hospital Guild, North Vernon Senior Center, AARP Leadership, Green Thumb, YMCA, and many others.
Survivors include her sons, Charles “Chuck” (Annie) Etienne Sr. of Butlerville, Wesley Scott (Rachael) Crane of North Vernon; daughter, Lorrie Lee (Bill) Campbell of Commiskey; stepsons, Joe Grider and Bill (Wilma) Grider, both of North Vernon; brother, Jim (Betty) Lamb of North Vernon; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Bryant of North Vernon; grandchildren, Charles Etienne Jr. of Clarksville, Tennessee, Bridgett (Robbie) Landfried of Abilene, Texas, Jessie (Jennie) Etienne of Commiskey, and Robert (Monica) Grider, Chris (Jenny) Grider, and Marie Grider, all of North Vernon; and nine great-grandchildren.
Jewell Dean was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Lois Ann Etienne; stepson, Larry Grider; stepdaughters-in-law, Josephine & Charlene Grider; sister, Martha Alline Stewart; and brothers, George, Kenneth Earl, and Russell Bryant.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Rev. Tim Poer officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at the Vernon Cemetery.
