JoAnn May

JoAnn May, 66, of North Vernon, passed away on August 28, 2019 in Mannford, Oklahoma.

Born June 5, 1953 in Springfield, Illinois, she was the daughter of Fred and Nelva Rose (Grigsby) Jurgens. She married Joseph Arthur May on November 21, 1967 in Muncie; he preceded her in death on January 24, 2018.

JoAnn worked as a truck driver for CMT-Trucking for three years. She had previously worked as a truck driver for CTI Trucking for a year and a half, for Team 1 Trucking for three years, and for C & H Trucking for twenty years. She was a member of A.B.A.T.E. and the Brotherhood of the Third Wheel. She was the owner and operator of OOIDA and volunteered for the Broken Wings AA Group in North Vernon. She enjoyed shopping, crocheting, painting, and crafts.

Survivors include sons, Joseph Robert (Tamera) May of Mannford, Oklahoma and Discan (Kerri) Noriega  of North Vernon; daughters, Sarah Noriega of Austin, Indiana and Kimberly Blair of North Vernon; mother, Nelva Rose Lorton of Springfield, Illinois; brother, Charles (Teresa) Jurgens of Clara, Alabama; sisters, Jane (Richard) Durham of Pekin, Illinois; Tina Ippert, of Springfield, Illinois;  grandchildren, Jody May, Christopher May, Cheyenne Blair, and Steven Lewis all of North Vernon, Lucas (Amanda) May of Texas, Jerrick Roberts, Aaron Wolcott, Karley May, Justin (Destiny) May, Joshua (Brooke) Henson, and Joseph May all of Mannford, Oklahoma, Brayden Morris, Danica Noriega and Landen White all of Austin, Jessica Lewis of Avon, and Alyssa May and James Daniel (Hailey) Henley both of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; husband, son, James Daniel May; great-grandson, Connor Lewis and sister, Brenda Blair.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 4 pm to 8 pm and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.            

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Muscular Dystrophy Association or Truckers Final Mile.
