Joann Lavern Combest, 92, of North Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her residence.
Born December 14, 1931, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late William McKinley and Dollie M. (Lawrence) Monday. She married Samuel Lawrence Combest on April 21, 1951, in Vernon; he preceded her in death on September 24, 2015.
Joann worked in the sewing and trim department for the former Regal Rugs in North Vernon for 30 years before retiring in 1994. She attended Rush Branch United Methodist Church in Butlerville and was a member of Coffee Creek Conservation Club. Joann enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, and playing bingo.
Survivors include her son, Samuel Allen (Karen) Combest of North Vernon; brothers, Richard Monday, Jerry Monday, Kenneth (Pam) Monday, and Billy Joe (Debbie) Monday, all of North Vernon; sisters, Hattie Rothert, Martha Lacey, and Gloria Browning, all of North Vernon, and Linda Ross of Scipio; grandchildren, Joanne (Bryant) Ownbey, Dee Ponsler and Samuel A. (Wendy) Combest II, all of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Andrea Baker and Gary Daniel Amis, both of Holton, Chris Ponsler, Alex Genda, Kolton Combest, Karlie Combest, Paisley Combest, Kailyn Combest, and Aleah Combest, all of North Vernon; great-great grandchildren, Addison Jackson, Jacob Arnholt, AJ Baker, Raelynn Baker, Korbin Baker, and Karson Amis, all of Holton, Ryliegh Genda, Maddilynn Genda, Bentley Genda, Layla Ponsler, and Lilly Richards, all of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Alvie and Harold Monday; and sisters, Marie Canary and Virginia Lamb.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Rev. Tim Poer officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials in honor of Joann may be made through the funeral home to Riley Children’s Hospital.
